Calvary welcomes you |
|
Holy Communion is offered at the 8:15 a.m. service every Sunday,
and at the 11 a.m. service the first Sunday of the month.
Calvary is not an ordinary church.
Like most
churches, we have worship services. We have Sunday school classes,
and we are involved in a number of outreach ministries.
We go beyond ordinary in the way we express the Methodist
approach:
|
|
Open hearts, open minds,
open doors. |
| |
|
Our hearts are open to
people from all walks of life, all ethnic backgrounds, all
circumstances. Our minds are open to
considering your needs and listening to your
story. Our doors are open to you.
|
| Our services are informal. Our people are friendly. We invite
you to come as you are, and see for yourself if the church home
you’ve been looking for is at Calvary. |

Meet Rick and Kay Cornwell |
 |
Rick and Kay Cornwell joined Calvary in July 2009
as our new pastor and his lovely wife. With them came a sense of
excitement and adventure as they began to make their unique imprint
on our church family.
Rick and Kay went to junior
high school together after both sets of parents relocated to
Brandon, Fla. They graduated from Brandon High School in 1967 and
went their separate ways to college.
Kay attended
Jacksonville University, and Rick headed to Georgia Tech on a
football scholarship. Rick's college education was interrupted by
the war in Viet Nam, and |
upon returning from military service, he finished
college in 1973. In the meantime, Kay transferred to the University
of South Florida where she graduated in 1971.
Rick worked for Florida Power and Light while Kay was teaching
elementary school. Between them, they have seven children, five of
whom live in Jacksonville along with nine of the couple's 12
grandchildren. Both Rick and Kay felt called by God early in high
school to be set apart for ministry of a special kind. Rick entered
seminary in the fall of 1979 at Candler Theological Seminary at
Emory University, graduating in 1983. He began serving churches in
the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Kay's
hobbies include quilting, cooking, making Rick happy and traveling.
Rick's hobbies are doing what Kay wants to do, eating, gardening (no
surprise here) and teaching the gospel. Kay has more than 30 zebra
finches, three cats - one of which she says is Rick's (the male),
and some pond fish.
Calvary is indeed blessed to
have Kay and Rick. And, both say they are just as happy to be here
as we are to have them.

| Meet the Church Council |
| Committees, ministry leaders and other administrative units
comprise Calvary's Church Council. These men and women are dedicated
to providing leadership, spiritual guidance and service in support
of Calvary's primary purpose: to glorify God by taking the good news
of God's saving grace to the community and the
world. |
